MMIW Workshop

What is MMIW?

MMIWG2S+ is an acronym for Missing Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls & Two Spirit. Murder is the 3rd leading cause of death for Native women (ages 10-24) and in 2018 over 6,000 Native women went missing from urban communities alone . Violence is prevalent, compared to the national average, Native communities are 10x more likely to experience violence due to intergenerational trauma from colonization, residential school programs and cultural erasure.

May the 5th is the MMIW Movement's day for awareness. Wear red to support the cause, learn about the issues, and inform others in your social circle!

What will this workshop cover?

In this workshop we will discuss the epidemic of violence within the community, key leaders who are advocating for change, and how you support efforts to protect Native women, girls and two- spirit relatives.
